Abstract
Real production systems that rely on manual productionand transportation processes are especially prone to disturbances. Thus, schedules often have to be revised on the spot by the operators using simple heuristics. These methods do not generate optimal solutions. Other approaches use agent-based control systems where the agents enable decentralized rescheduling based on local information. The following paper describes a simulation model of a production system that allows a quantitative comparison of the alternative control and planning logics by using the simulation software FlexSim.
